What i did for this Assignment 7 August 2012

FINAL UPDATEWhat I did for this Assignment:

For this assignment,

1. I did the jumping animation of my character
2. The texturing of the scene with the rest
3. Modelled thw arrows & also the wood branches

Effects ( For the breakdown on these effects, they are being updated at the bottom of this post as there isn't much changes made in my 3 effects)
4. The sparkles that goes behind the arrow so that when the sky turns dark, the character will still be able to see whee the arrows are pointing so that he will be able to find the coins




5. The sheild effect when the character hits the "s" key the shield will appear for protection for the character. I used the sphere collider on the sphere so that when the bullets hits him it bounches away
I also deformed the sphere size to a more oval shape because our game's starting point is in the house. If its a sphere shape, the character will have difficulty coming out of the house.

My final 3 effects

I'll be updating on what I've been doing all this while for this game.
First of all is the shield effect that when the player hits the "S" key,
a shield will appear and protect the character. I also made a sphere collider which
goes around the sphere. When the bullets hit the character, it will be collided thus not hurting the character.

The shield script with the help of Mr Ron.



This is how my shield looks like




My second effect is the sparkling effect that will go around the arrow .
This arrow will lead the character to the coins. It acts as a guide to the coins.
I was guided by an online tutorial.

Still adjusting the values..


Getting closer to what I want


Decided to change the colour of it to a brighter glowing colour so that at night when the light goes off, this will still be visible to the character.

The last effect will be the fire



This is how my fire look like



I've also modelled branches in Maya and brought it into Unity and placed it at the base of the fire to make it look like a campfire.



This is the final look of the fire in the game scene.

This is going to be the effect around my arrow.
I was really having a hard time doing until i found this tutorial which is really good, it saved my ....grades!

So I will get this done hopefully by the end of this week.

Modelled it in Maya, this will be the arrows for guiding the
character to the coins.. It will be located in all different corners on our terrain.

I'll be doing the effects in Unity, something like glowing effect of particle around the arrow

Has been trying to build the shield for my character.
I want to build bubble using scripting.
Like, when the player presses a button, the bubble wraps the character up


The above 2 are the reference ive gotton from the net. I'm trying to make something like
the second picture because i have the webite for the script and it does look like a shield. However, thee script doesn't work no matter how many times i tried. There are always errors!!! Sigh.

We learnt how to placed materials onto the particles.
This is the image I wanted to placed on my sand particles.


I set rotations in this settings as it will make the particles move in a more random movement.


This is the final material used for the dust particle.

The colour over lifetime is to make my particle colour fade off naturally.

Today, as we need a jumping animation for our boy,
I use the time given to animate the boy's jumping motion



The next thing I'l be doing will be the shield and also the the glowing arrows im Unity.

I've been looking online for help and also scripts that will allow me to
glow something. I need them for my arrows and also my shield. I'm trying to find ideas on how to build the shield because i really am not sure of it

A preview of how i want my things to look

The man jumping animation. I will do in Maya and make it a cycle

I want to build a shield over the character and this is how it will look like. Something that will come up and cover up the character when the player presses a key

As for the arrows,

It will look something like this, giving the character hints and directions for him to go get the coins!

Presentation Today!!!!!!!!!!!!

After presenting our game today. We were told to change quite a few things in our game and also alot more improvement to be made to our game.

1) Change the rotation speed of the guy
2) Improve on the menu buttons, make them not move around on different screens
3) Make our character to only jump when there is a ground
4)Our character to stay in a still direction when he stops running, because right now our character still has the moving animation when he stops running. We have to remove that.
5)A brighter sky


3 EFFECTS EVERYONE (the horrrrrror)

So for the next half of the semester, we will have to improve on our game and also add in 3 effects each for our game.

I'll be doing,
1)A shield to appear to protect the character if the player presses a certain key to protect himself from danger . Eg (bullets/enemy)

2) Arrows that will guide the player to get the coins. I hope to make some floating arrows that will glow.

3) Animation when the character jumps up. Because right now our character only have a running animation. I will animate it to move in a jumping action with arms up.

And for the gun shooting, we will all work together. Because all of us we need the help of one another because we are not sure of how to do it :(

So for this assignment, I guess we are at least half way done?
Still alot to do and we have a list of effects to ad in to our game to make the whole
thing look nicer and also more interesting for the player.

For this assignment, I did most of the texturing and also the start and pause menus.

I' ve also worked on the win, game over and start menus scripts with HuiQing.


We have the score and also the time calculator up.


However we still have problems with the shooting of bullets from the tank.
It will be something that we will be working on for the next half of the semester.

In conclusion, everyone did a bit of everything. We helped each other out as we're all not very good at Unity as it is a new program to us.
We rely alot on the internet forums and also the unity help. It helped us in some ways. However we're not very clear of what some of them are scripting also. Thus, the scrips cannot work and it made us a little paranoid.

GAME WIP

We know that this assignment is due TODAY, However, we're still stuck!
We'll try our best to finish it up!!!!!!!!!

So.. here's an overview of the terrain that I've textured with JiaYing.




I've created pathways for our character to move and also we have imported our coins into the
terrain and hidden them well.

Here's the character that Jennifer had rigged. It is supposed to be a running man.

However, the biggest problem now is SCRIPTING. Our character have problem
jumping even after we delete all the rigid bodies.

All the gun machines are also in the terrain already however we're still working on our script for that.
